DOORSTEP PHOTOGRAPHY

A project, in which I photographed people living in South East London, who couldn't leave their homes during Christmas 2020, as a result of the Government's measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

A lot of us will remember Christmas 2020 as the time when we couldn't meet our friends to exchange presents, couldn't spend time with our families and we had a lot of leftover turkey and nobody to share it with!

Like most Londoners, I was devastated when the Government announced that the Capital has been put in tier four, only 5 days before Christmas. This was the moment we all realised that we have to cancel all of our plans and stay at home.

As a photographer I felt the urge to capture this very different (and special) Christmas. So, I decided to do doorstep photoshoots with people living in my area in order to spread positivity and encapsulate the way they celebrated. I hoped that with my pictures I could remind everyone that even though it wasn’t the Christmas we all hoped for, there will always be light at the end of the tunnel and that even when people felt the loneliest, there is always someone next to you - your partner, your friend, your flatmate, your neighbour, or even your pet.

I got so inspired by the people I photographed that I decided to set up a fundraiser to raise money for those of us who might have felt forgotten and lonelier than ever - people with dementia. People with dementia have been seriously affected by the isolation during the pandemic. Until now we have raised £345 for Dementia UK and I am extremely grateful to everyone who supported the initiative.

Enough about me! Now, meet the people living in South East London, who couldn't be with their families this year!
